Polio Surveillance Officer – Kenya (STRIDES Project)

About the role

PATH is seeking a Polio Surveillance Officer to support the STRengthening Infectious disease DEtection Systems (STRIDES) Project in Kenya. The role focuses on enhancing polio and broader infectious disease surveillance across human and animal health sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical support for polio surveillance, including Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) surveillance, environmental surveillance, and community‑based reporting systems.
• Strengthen national and sub‑national surveillance performance to meet Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) standards.
• Support development, coordination, and implementation of epidemiological and laboratory surveillance activities for zoonotic, epidemic‑ and pandemic‑prone diseases.
• Review and revise project and donor reports, draft publications, and manage external communications.
• Coordinate with ministries of health, district health staff, and development partners.
• Contribute to polio outbreak preparedness and response, including rapid field deployments and after‑action reviews.
• Produce and disseminate high‑quality data, situation reports, bulletins, and health risk assessments.
• Support internal learning and development of infectious disease surveillance within PATH.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or international equivalent in epidemiology, public health, or a related field.
• Subject‑matter expertise in polio surveillance and infectious disease monitoring.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise sound judgment.
• Experience collaborating with government agencies and international partners.
