Political Affairs Internship

About the role

The United Nations Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary‑General on the Great Lakes Region is offering a 3‑to‑6‑month Political Affairs Internship in Nairobi. The intern will support the Political Affairs Unit under the supervision of a Political Affairs Officer, assisting with research, document preparation and event logistics. This position is unpaid and the intern is responsible for arranging travel, visa and living expenses.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare documents such as correspondence, talking points and background notes for review.
• Conduct research on topics of interest to the Political Affairs Unit using public sources.
• Attend meetings, conferences and seminars and produce summary notes.
• Provide logistical assistance in organizing conferences, meetings, seminars and workshops.

Required profile

• Enrollment in or completion of a graduate programme, or final year of a bachelor’s degree in a field related to governance or political science.
• Fluency in written and spoken English and working‑level knowledge of French.
• Ability to obtain the necessary visa and work authorization for Kenya if not a citizen or permanent resident.
