Principal – Internal Audit (Hybrid, Nairobi)

About the role

The Principal – Internal Audit will support the Group Head of Internal Audit in delivering assurance over strategic and operational risks across Cellulant’s operations in Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda and Tanzania.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing and executing risk‑based internal audit plans, developing control frameworks and conducting financial, compliance and operational audits.
• Supervise, train and mentor Internal Audit Analysts, reviewing working papers to ensure adherence to Group standards.
• Identify control weaknesses, recommend mitigation measures and draft evidence‑based audit reports.
• Coordinate with external audit teams, monitor follow‑up actions and foster governance relationships with senior leadership.

Required profile

• University degree in a business‑related discipline.
• Professional certification such as CPA, CIA or CISA is an advantage.
• Minimum 8 years of internal audit experience, preferably in high‑growth fintech or payments organisations.
• Strong knowledge of auditing standards, analytical ability and attention to detail.

Required skills

• Proficiency with data manipulation tools.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
