Principal Internal Audit – Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania

About the role

The Principal Internal Audit will support the Group Head of Internal Audit in delivering assurance on control effectiveness across Cellulant’s strategic and operational objectives, overseeing audit engagements in multiple African markets.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing and implementing a risk‑based internal audit plan and maintaining audit frameworks.
• Lead audit teams to conduct financial, compliance and operational audits, identify control weaknesses and recommend improvements.
• Supervise, train and mentor Internal Audit Analysts, ensuring high‑quality audit work and adherence to standards.
• Coordinate with external auditors and follow up on audit recommendations.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of internal audit experience in high‑growth organisations, preferably in payments or fintech.
• University degree in a business‑related discipline; CPA, CIA or CISA certification is a plus.
• Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage heavy workloads and meet strict deadlines.

Required skills

• Knowledge of auditing standards, laws, regulations and internal control frameworks.
• Experience with audit planning, execution, reporting and follow‑up.
• Familiarity with data manipulation tools and emerging technologies impacting audit practices.
