Programme Associate – WASH, Shelter & Settlements

About the role

The European Commission’s Directorate General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO) is seeking a Programme Associate to support WASH, Shelter and Settlements programmes from its Nairobi Regional Office. The role contributes to effective humanitarian response, assessments, monitoring and reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in appraisal, monitoring and evaluation of projects, including financial assessment of proposals.
• Analyse partner reports, prepare fiche‑ops, draft humanitarian situation reports and produce information briefs.
• Support the Technical Assistant on field visits, act as interpreter when needed, and provide back‑stopping and surge support.
• Maintain contact with partners, manage contracts/grants database and represent DG ECHO in partner relations.

Required profile

• Relevant first‑level university degree, preferably in water engineering or a related scientific discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in WASH, Shelter & Settlements, with at least 2 years in an NGO, UN, donor or similar organisation.
• Excellent written and spoken English; knowledge of French is an asset.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Word and MS Excel.
• Good computer literacy and ability to prepare maps when required.

What we offer

• Fixed‑term contract of one year (renewable) with a 3‑month probation period.
• Monthly basic salary of KES 350,795 (subject to tax) plus disability/retirement allowance, 13th‑month salary and medical coverage.
