Project Coordinator – WASH Consultant (Kibera, Nairobi)

About the role

Viva con Agua is seeking a Project Coordinator Consultant to lead the implementation of a WASH project in Kibera, Nairobi. The role combines engineering oversight of water infrastructure with community‑based behaviour‑change activities, ensuring the project delivers safe water and improved hygiene to the local school and surrounding community.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee drilling contractors and technical consultants to ensure borehole works meet national specifications, quality and safety standards.
• Supervise design and installation of solar‑powered pumping and distribution systems and a Reverse Osmosis water treatment plant.
• Review technical designs, Bills of Quantities and contractor deliverables, signing off on milestones.
• Ensure compliance with National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and Water Resources Authority permits and coordinate county development approvals.
• Coordinate procurement for all hardware components.
• Design and deliver hygiene‑promotion and behaviour‑change activities (hand‑washing, water safety, sanitation) tailored to the Kibera context.
• Act as the primary liaison with national and county government agencies and utility providers.

Required profile

• Proven experience in on‑site field leadership for water‑related projects.
• Ability to integrate engineering and community‑behaviour strands into a single intervention.
• Experience working with government agencies and utility providers.
• Strong coordination and reporting skills, reporting to the WASH Programs Coordinator.
