Property Accountant

About the role

The Property Accountant maintains the general ledger and supports financial reporting for a real‑estate portfolio, ensuring accurate accounting for rental revenue, operating expenses, capital expenditures, and tenant activity in line with GAAP and company policies.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare journal entries, accruals, amortization, and allocations.
• Reconcile balance‑sheet accounts, including bank statements, and resolve discrepancies.
• Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close processes.
• Record rental income, tenant billings, CAM recoveries, prepaid expenses, security deposits, and escrows.
• Maintain fixed‑asset schedules and depreciation records.
• Monitor rent collections, AR aging, and support delinquency reporting.
• Process property‑related invoices and manage accounts payable.
• Prepare property‑level financial statements and perform budget‑to‑actual variance analysis.
• Contribute to annual budget preparation and reforecasting.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 2–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate.
• Knowledge of property accounting principles and GAAP.
• Experience with entity hierarchies, intercompany transactions, and fixed‑asset accounting.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Yardi Voyager or comparable property accounting software.
• Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial modeling.
