Recovery Officer Intern – Loan Collections (Western Kenya)

About the role

This full-time internship is designed for candidates with prior micro‑finance collections experience who wish to deepen their expertise in loan recovery and portfolio management. The role focuses on recovering long‑outstanding and defaulted accounts in Western Kenya.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and follow up assigned long‑outstanding and defaulted loan accounts.
• Contact customers via calls, messages, and field visits to secure repayments.
• Develop and implement recovery strategies tailored to each customer’s circumstances and repayment capacity.
• Negotiate realistic repayment commitments and monitor promises to pay (PTPs) until fulfilled.
• Conduct field visits to customers and relevant contacts as needed.
• Identify cases requiring recovery action promptly.
• Maintain accurate records of recovery activities, customer commitments, payments, and visit outcomes.
• Collaborate with Collections Officers and other teams to support effective account recovery.
• Achieve assigned recovery targets and provide regular updates on the portfolio.

Required profile

• KCSE Certificate.
• Diploma or Degree in any relevant field.
• Computer competency.
• At least 6 months’ experience as a Collection Officer in a micro‑finance institution.
• Strong understanding of loan collections and customer repayment management.
• Applicants should be 35 years of age or below.
