Relationship Officer – Alternative Channels

About the role

The Relationship Officer – Alternative Channels will lead the development and growth of partnerships between Old Mutual and a range of distribution partners such as aggregators, SACCOs, MFIs and co‑operative societies. The role focuses on acquiring new partners, nurturing existing relationships and ensuring the successful rollout of insurance solutions tailored to these channels.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, engage and onboard new distribution partners for insurance products.
• Design and execute strategies to increase insurance penetration within the SACCO and MFI sectors.
• Present and pitch insurance solutions to senior decision‑makers, meeting or exceeding sales and revenue targets.
• Maintain strong relationships with CEOs, managers and board members of partner organisations.
• Collaborate with product teams to create insurance offerings that meet the specific needs of SACCO and MFI members.
• Gather market insights, monitor industry trends and provide feedback for product improvement.
• Organise training sessions and awareness campaigns to build partner capacity and promote financial literacy.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and internal policies, manage distribution risks and support claims processing.
• Track performance metrics, prepare regular reports and present progress to senior management.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of experience in the insurance industry, with at least 5 years in business development.
• Deep understanding of micro‑insurance, SACCO/MFI operations and financial inclusion strategies.
• Proven track record of meeting sales targets and managing strategic partnerships.
• Strong negotiation, communication and stakeholder‑management abilities.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple stakeholders and drive results.
