Research Assistant

About the role

KEMRI is seeking entry‑level Research Assistants to support clinical and community health studies in Nairobi and Isiolo. The role involves direct interaction with study participants, data collection, and ensuring compliance with ethical and protocol standards.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clear study information to potential participants, screen eligibility, and obtain informed consent.
• Administer questionnaires and psychological assessments, collect and enter data using encrypted electronic devices.
• Conduct qualitative interviews, including focus‑group discussions and in‑depth interviews.
• Maintain accurate participant records, secure storage of study documentation, and ensure confidentiality.
• Prepare periodic field reports and document implementation experiences, challenges, and mitigation measures.
• Support monitoring, quality assurance, and compliance activities in line with SOPs and ethical requirements.

Required profile

• Diploma in Nursing, Psychology, Clinical Medicine, Public Health, Community Health, or a related field from a recognized institution.
• Demonstrated experience in both qualitative and quantitative data collection.
• Experience working with mental health or vulnerable populations is an advantage.
• Willingness to work in Turkana and knowledge of the local cultural context is preferred for certain positions.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Experience using digital data collection tools such as REDCap.
• Certification in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and/or Human Subjects Protection (HSP) is highly desirable.
