Research Assistant (MYTHIC Study) – 3 Positions

About the role

The MYTHIC project compares HIV-1 reservoir characteristics in people living with HIV and tuberculosis (on and off antiretroviral therapy) to those without TB, and assesses the impact of TB on HIV-1 latency reversal. The Research Assistant supports the study by recruiting and following up participants, collecting data, administering questionnaires, keeping records and reviewing literature. The role reports to the Study Coordinator and is based in Kisumu.

Key responsibilities

• Recruit participants from target communities through outreach and sensitization sessions with the Community Engagement Lead and community-based associations
• Distribute and explain study information and consent materials in an understandable, culturally appropriate way
• Pre-screen potential participants, develop follow-up plans and conduct reminder calls, home visits or community tracing
• Track visit attendance, resolve barriers to participation and maintain confidentiality
• Build relationships with women's groups, youth networks and healthcare providers, and share community feedback with the team
• Maintain accurate logs of recruitment and retention, document all contact attempts and submit weekly and monthly progress reports to the Study Coordinator

Required profile

• Diploma in Community Health, Social Work or Counselling Psychology, or another health-related course
• At least two years of research experience
• Fluent in English and Kiswahili; knowledge of the local language is an advantage
• Certificate in Human Subjects Protection
• Conversant with the study area

Required skills

• Excellent REDCap skills for data collection
• Excellent computer skills
• Ability to communicate regularly with the Study Coordinator by email and video call
• Team player who can work with minimal supervision
