School Librarian

About the role

A full-time School Librarian position in Kiambu, advertised by Reeds Africa Consult, manages the school library's resources and promotes reading, research and independent learning among learners and staff. Applications close on 31 December 2026.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day operations of the school library.
• Catalogue, classify, label and arrange books and other learning resources systematically.
• Maintain accurate records of borrowing, returns and overdue items.
• Assist learners and teachers in finding appropriate books and materials.
• Promote reading through programmes, book clubs and other literacy activities.
• Ensure materials are properly handled, stored and maintained, and monitor inventory to recommend new acquisitions.
• Support learners in developing research, information literacy and independent learning skills.
• Prepare regular reports on library usage, inventory and resource needs.
• Keep the library clean, quiet, safe and conducive, and comply with school policies and library procedures.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Library and Information Science, Library Studies, Records Management or a related field.
• Previous experience in a school library or similar setting is an added advantage.
• Valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
• Ability to work with learners of different ages and collaborate with teachers.
