Senior Accountant - Construction Materials

About the role

Career Directions Limited is looking for a highly experienced and dependable Accountant to join its construction and finishing materials company in Kenya. The ideal candidate has a strong background in accounting and finance within the construction, hardware or building materials industry, with at least 10 years of relevant experience, and is proficient in Sage accounting software.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate financial records and manage accounts payable and receivable.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and reports.
• Reconcile bank statements, supplier accounts and customer accounts.
• Monitor inventory transactions for tiles, sanitary ware, adhesives and finishing materials.
• Process payroll and ensure statutory deductions are remitted on time.
• Prepare and file tax returns including VAT, PAYE, NHIF and NSSF, and ensure compliance with Kenyan financial and tax regulations.
• Assist in budgeting, forecasting and financial planning; prepare audit schedules and coordinate with external auditors.
• Monitor cash flow, generate Sage reports for management review, and support procurement and sales with financial analysis and stock controls.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• CPA (K), ACCA or equivalent professional qualification.
• Minimum of 10 years' accounting experience, preferably in construction or building materials.
• Preferred: experience handling accounts for construction projects or hardware/building materials companies, and understanding of stock and inventory management systems.

Required skills

• Hands-on experience with Sage accounting software (a must).
• Excellent knowledge of financial reporting and inventory accounting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, integrity and attention to detail.
