Senior Accountant (Consultancy Role)

About the role

A temporary consultancy position for a Senior Accountant in Nairobi, aimed at stabilizing the finance department with immediate, hands-on support. The role ensures continuity, compliance and operational efficiency in accounting during a critical period. It is consultancy-based, not expected to be extremely intense but time-sensitive, with an immediate start and a contract of 3 to 6 months, renewable based on performance.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day accounting operations with accuracy and timeliness.
• Process and load payments for suppliers, contractors and other stakeholders.
• Oversee accounts reconciliations, collections and receivables management.
• Clear existing financial and data-entry backlogs and update accounting records.
• Coordinate with external auditors and provide required documentation.
• Ensure statutory and tax compliance (PAYE, VAT, withholding, NHIF, NSSF, etc.).
• Prepare and maintain financial reports, ledgers and supporting schedules.
• Support management in implementing financial controls and best practices.
• Handle large volumes of client funds with confidentiality and integrity.

Required profile

• CPA (K) qualification (Certified Public Accountant, Kenya).
• At least 3 years of progressive experience in a reputable audit or accounting firm.
• Proven ability to handle high-value financial transactions with honesty and precision.
• High integrity, strong attention to detail, analytical skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of IFRS, tax laws and accounting systems such as QuickBooks or Sage.
• Proficiency in MS Excel and accounting software.
• Excellent organizational, time-management and communication skills.
