Senior Accountant - Fin-Tech Payments

About the role

A leading fin-tech company, recruited through Stratostaff East Africa, is looking for a Senior Accountant based in Nairobi. The role reports to the Finance Manager and covers accurate, timely and compliant financial operations behind payments, revenue collection and merchant settlements. It supports strong financial controls, reliable reporting and efficient settlement processes across suppliers, merchants, counties and regulators.

Key responsibilities

• Accounts Payable: oversee supplier payments, ensure proper approvals and manage payable balances
• General Ledger: maintain accurate records, post transactions and run monthly reconciliations
• Bank and payment reconciliations: reconcile bank and settlement accounts and resolve discrepancies
• Payroll and compliance: support payroll processing and ensure timely statutory deductions and filings
• Budgeting and monitoring: assist with budgets and analyse variances between actual and planned performance
• Merchant settlements: manage and reconcile merchant and partner payments in a high-volume environment
• Reporting: support management accounts and regulatory reporting, including compliance with relevant authorities
• Audit and records: prepare for audits and keep financial documentation organised
• Process improvement: enhance financial systems, controls and efficiency

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field
• CPA (K) / ACCA or equivalent professional qualification (completed or finalist)
• Minimum 5 years' accounting experience, preferably in fin-tech, payments, banking or revenue collection
• Strong experience in bank and settlement reconciliations
• Understanding of Kenyan tax and statutory compliance

• High attention to detail, analytical and reconciliation skills
• Ability to work under pressure in high-volume transaction environments
