Senior Development Manager
Educate! · Nairobi
Job description
About the role
Educate! is hiring a Senior Development Manager for its revenue team in Nairobi, Westlands. The role sits one step below Head of Development and combines strategy, execution and relationship management: leading external engagements with philanthropic funders, developing proposals and mentoring junior team members. It starts with a heavy focus on execution and moves toward strategy and leadership as the portfolio grows.
Key responsibilities
- Relationship management: act as primary relationship manager for a defined portfolio of funders, identify new funders and take increasing ownership of revenue targets and account management.
- Proposal development: lead funding proposals, concept notes and grant applications, edit external communications and manage proposal timelines and quality control.
- Team leadership: manage and coach junior revenue team members, delegate workstreams and escalate issues to the Director of Philanthropy with recommendations.
- Donor visits: plan and run end-to-end funder visits, prepare teams, follow up after visits and travel to programs in East Africa to support in-country engagements.
- Strategic projects: support the Director of Philanthropy on initiatives such as new market development, contribute to pipeline tracking and revenue forecasting, and build systems and processes.
Required profile
- 5-7 years of experience in a senior execution role, ready to move into team leadership.
- Proven track record of securing funding through proposals and sustained funder relationships.
- Experience coaching or managing junior colleagues.
- Experience living or working in East Africa is a strong plus.
Required skills
- Advanced writing, structuring and editing skills, able to synthesize large amounts of information quickly.
- Strong organizational and execution skills, working independently to deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
What we offer
- Fully remote or hybrid work, depending on location.
- Competitive salary and benefits based on experience and location.
- Learning and growth opportunities.
- Fixed-term contract with a possibility of extension based on performance.
