About the role
BirdLife International is seeking a senior professional to lead the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of environmental and social safeguards for the GFIP RCP in Kenya. The officer will ensure compliance with GEF and CI‑GEF safeguard frameworks and integrate gender equality and social inclusion throughout project activities.
Key responsibilities
- Lead operationalisation of the project’s Environmental and Social Management Framework, including annual safeguard screenings and risk categorisation.
- Develop and update project‑level instruments such as Environmental and Social Management Plans, Stakeholder Engagement Plans, Gender Mainstreaming Plans and GBV action plans.
- Maintain a safeguard risk register and support integration of mitigation measures across all activities.
- Oversee the Accountability and Grievance Mechanism, ensuring timely, confidential handling of complaints.
- Ensure project reporting meets CI‑GEF safeguard compliance and that data are captured in the MEAL system.
- Conduct secondary safeguard screenings using CI‑GEF templates and coordinate responses to supervision and compliance reviews.
- Provide technical leadership on environmental and social risk management, gender and social inclusion, and stakeholder engagement.
- Collaborate closely with the RCP Project Management Unit, national child projects and regional partners.
Required profile
- Senior‑level experience in environmental and social safeguards within international development or conservation projects.
- Demonstrated ability to lead safeguard compliance, risk assessment and grievance mechanisms.
- Strong knowledge of GEF, CI‑GEF Environmental and Social Safeguard Standards and related gender and inclusion frameworks.
- Experience working with multi‑stakeholder project teams and regional partners.
