Senior Program Officer – Novel Technologies & Regional Policy (Africa)

About the role

The Senior Program Officer will lead the Gates Foundation’s work on regional coordination and transboundary policy for novel and emerging health technologies across Africa. Embedded in the Policy, Government Relations and Partnerships (PGRP) team of the Africa Regional Office, the role partners with governments and regional institutions to advance country‑led priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead regional coordination and transboundary policy initiatives for emerging health technologies, including malaria interventions.
• Engage political leaders and regional bodies to shape enabling policy frameworks.
• Support country‑led priorities and strengthen policy environments at national, regional, and continental levels.
• Collaborate with grantees, Global Health, Global Development, and other foundation divisions to align advocacy efforts.
• Represent the foundation in regional platforms and strategic partnerships.

Required profile

• Minimum 7 years of experience in public policy, government relations, or health technology advocacy, preferably in Africa.
• Demonstrated ability to work across multiple governments and regional institutions.
• Strong understanding of emerging health technologies and infectious disease control.
