Senior Programme Officer – CJF

About the role

The Senior Programme Officer – CJF will lead science communication initiatives, translating complex scientific and public health information into clear, compelling content for diverse audiences.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement communication strategies and content for various audiences and channels, including digital, media, and events.
• Collaborate with scientists, researchers, policymakers, funders and other stakeholders to produce accurate and engaging communication products.
• Support programmes, fellowships and multi‑stakeholder projects by creating communication deliverables and managing stakeholder engagement.

Required profile

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Science, Public Health, Science Communication, Journalism or related field; Master’s preferred.
• At least 5 years of progressive experience in science communication, strategic communications, science journalism or related areas, preferably in the non‑profit sector.
• Proven ability to translate complex scientific or technical information into clear, audience‑focused content.

Required skills

• Excellent writing, editing, storytelling and scientific communication skills.
• Proficiency with digital communication tools, social media platforms, website content management systems and multimedia production.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and interpersonal abilities.
• Advanced use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and SharePoint.
• Fluent English; knowledge of French or another African Union language is an advantage.
