Senior Project Manager

About the role

Code for Africa is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead multi‑stakeholder initiatives across its civic technology and data‑journalism labs. The role will coordinate remote teams, manage budgets, and ensure timely delivery of high‑impact projects that advance digital democracy in Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, track, and manage detailed work plans for multiple projects.
• Coordinate cross‑functional delivery with software engineers, journalists, trainers, and data analysts.
• Oversee grant, fellowship, and organisational budgets, ensuring financial compliance.
• Maintain clear communication with media institutions, governments, NGOs, and international partners.
• Monitor project risks, resolve issues, and keep stakeholders informed of progress.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years of project management experience, preferably in development, civic tech, or social impact.
• Proven ability to manage complex, multi‑stakeholder initiatives with competing priorities.
• Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and calmness under pressure.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English; additional languages (French, Arabic, African languages) are a plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency with project management tools such as Asana, Trello, or Google Suite.
• Experience developing and tracking work plans and timelines.
• Budget management and financial reporting across grants and organisational spend.
