Senior Project Manager – Utility-Scale Solar PV & BESS

About the role

The Senior Project Manager will own end‑to‑end delivery of a utility‑scale solar PV and battery energy storage system (BESS) project, acting as the single point of accountability from financial close through commercial operation. The role is based in a frontier market environment in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and requires strong leadership of EPC contractors, logistics, regulatory engagement and on‑site construction activities.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate EPC contractors, Owner’s Engineer, suppliers, government authorities and internal teams to deliver the project safely, on schedule, within budget and meeting performance guarantees.
• Manage EPC contract administration, construction supervision, FAT/SAT coordination, commissioning and commercial operation handover.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams across engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning while mitigating project risks.
• Engage stakeholders including utilities, regulators and senior leadership to ensure smooth project execution.

Required profile

• 10–15 years of experience managing large infrastructure or renewable‑energy projects, with a proven track record on utility‑scale solar PV and BESS.
• Lead project manager on at least three renewable projects >30 MW and one project >100 MW.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or Renewable Energy Engineering.
• Professional certifications such as PMP or Chartered Engineer are preferred.

Required skills

• Utility‑scale hybrid solar PV systems and diesel generator integration.
• Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), SCADA and Energy Management Systems (EMS).
• Grid interconnection, substation design and balance‑of‑plant engineering.
• Software tools: PVsyst, ETAP, PSSE, PSCAD.
