About the role

Amentum is seeking a skilled Shipwright to support a unique U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves constructing, repairing, and maintaining marine vessels and their structural components in accordance with engineering drawings and shipbuilding specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Construct, repair, and maintain vessels using blueprints, ship plans, and technical specifications.
• Lay out reference points, centerlines, and alignment locations on shipways, dry docks, and building docks with transits, levels, plumb bobs, and measuring tapes.
• Build and install keel blocks, bilge blocks, cradles, shoring, and support structures for construction and dry‑docking operations.
• Fabricate, fit, and install wooden structural components such as furring pieces, aprons, uprights, framing, and blocking.
• Install and secure metal fittings, plates, bulkheads, and structural hardware using bolts, fasteners, braces, augers, mauls, and wrenches.
• Operate woodworking machinery, portable power tools, lifting equipment, and material‑handling equipment safely.
• Inspect components for alignment, fit, and compliance; perform repairs and replacements as needed.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment and complete required documentation.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and technical drawings.
• Commitment to safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment.

Required skills

• Blueprint and technical drawing interpretation.
• Use of measuring instruments (transits, levels, plumb bobs, tapes).
• Operation of woodworking machinery and portable power tools.
• Installation of metal fittings and structural hardware.
• Lifting and material‑handling equipment operation.
