Social Media Officer

About the role

Ol Pejeta Conservancy, which holds a key-one population of the critically endangered eastern black rhino and the last two northern white rhinos in the world, is seeking a Social Media Officer. The role sits within the Communications and Marketing department, reports to the Director, Communications and Marketing, and is based in Nanyuki. The officer builds trust and grows community engagement across digital channels, supporting advocacy, brand awareness and tourism promotion.

Key responsibilities

• Create a social media content calendar covering short-form video reels, graphics and copy tailored to each platform, promoting tourism, fundraising and conservation impact.
• Position Ol Pejeta as a unique Kenyan safari experience and support live coverage of events and product launches, including behind-the-scenes content.
• Manage the community inbox, monitor comments and respond to user queries.
• Work with the Digital Marketing Manager on campaigns for tourism and fundraising.
• Identify emerging trends and algorithmic shifts and adjust the content pipeline accordingly.
• Produce monthly and quarterly reports tracking engagement rate, organic and paid reach, posts published and follower growth, using tools such as Sprout Social, Hootsuite or native analytics.
• Partner with Kenyan influencers and create content for routine fundraising campaigns.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in digital marketing, journalism, business or a related field.
• At least 3 years of experience managing social media for conservation, travel or corporate brands.
• Strong copywriting, proofreading and communication skills, with a good sense of the brand voice.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with minimal supervision.

Required skills

• Familiarity with Meta, X, TikTok and LinkedIn, and with algorithmic changes.
• Photo and video editing with Adobe Creative Cloud apps and CapCut (compulsory).
• Social media scheduling tools such as Hootsuite or Sprout Social.
