Solar Installation Technician – Renewable Energy

About the role
The Solar Installation Technician will join a fast‑growing renewable‑energy team to deliver high‑quality solar PV projects across Nairobi. You will work on rooftop and ground‑mounted installations, ensuring safety, compliance and optimal system performance.
Key responsibilities
- Install mounting structures on rooftops or ground‑mounted sites, maintaining correct alignment, tilt angles and structural integrity.
- Lay out panel arrays according to design specifications while optimizing for shading, orientation and efficiency.
- Perform DC wiring (panel strings, combiner boxes) and AC wiring (inverter to distribution board/grid) with proper cable sizing, routing, termination and labeling.
- Implement earthing, grounding and lightning‑protection systems and follow safe isolation procedures.
- Conduct pre‑commissioning tests (polarity, insulation resistance, continuity) using multimeters, clamp meters and insulation testers.
- Commission systems, verify inverter, battery and monitoring functionality, and resolve faults before handover.
- Provide troubleshooting and preventive maintenance, including panel cleaning, connection tightening and performance checks.
- Read and interpret single‑line diagrams, wiring schematics and mounting drawings, reporting any design inconsistencies.
- Ensure all work complies with EPRA guidelines, Kenyan regulations and company safety policies, using appropriate PPE at all times.
Required profile
- Mid‑level professional with at least 48 months of hands‑on experience in solar PV installation.
- Demonstrated ability to work safely on electrical systems and follow Kenyan regulatory standards.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret technical drawings accurately.
