Special Education & ICT Teacher (SEN, LCW, SPHE)

About the role

The Kilkenny and Carlow Education and Training Board is seeking a dedicated teacher to deliver specialised instruction in Special Educational Needs (SEN), Life, Community & Work (LCW), Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE) at Scoil Aireagail. This fixed‑term position offers 22 hours per week, split across the four subject areas.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, deliver and assess lessons in SEN, LCW, ICT and SPHE according to the national curriculum.
• Develop individualized learning plans for students with special needs.
• Collaborate with colleagues to integrate cross‑curricular links, supporting literacy, numeracy and critical thinking.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate outcomes to parents and stakeholders.
• Participate in professional development and contribute to the school’s inclusive culture.

Required profile

• Registered with the Teaching Council of Ireland (essential).
• Relevant teaching qualification; postgraduate study in Special Education is an advantage.
• Experience teaching SEN, LCW, ICT or SPHE in a secondary school setting.
• Demonstrated ability to meet the key teaching competencies: professional knowledge, practice, communication and self‑management.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of the Irish curriculum for SEN, LCW, ICT and SPHE.
• Ability to design and implement differentiated instruction.
• Effective classroom management and assessment techniques.
