Special Education Teacher

About the role

The Uwezo Ustawi Foundation is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to work on‑site in Nairobi. You will deliver individualized instruction and support to learners with disabilities, ensuring inclusive and high‑quality education.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, implement and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each learner.
• Adapt curriculum and teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
• Assess student progress regularly and document outcomes.
• Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff and families to promote inclusive practices.
• Manage classroom environment and develop appropriate learning materials.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and communicate with caregivers.
• Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices.

Required profile

• Strong foundation in Special Education with experience working with learners with disabilities.
• Proven teaching experience, preferably at middle school or upper primary level.
• Excellent communication skills for collaboration with learners, families and colleagues.
• Relevant academic background in Education, Special Education or a related field.
• Knowledge of inclusive education practices, IEP development and behavior‑support strategies.
• Ability to create a safe, supportive and culturally responsive classroom.
• Organizational and documentation skills to track progress and report outcomes.
• Willingness to participate in ongoing training and professional development.
