Technical Program Associate or Manager

About the role

GiveDirectly delivers cash directly to millions of people living in poverty and crisis, and is building a new technology stack and operating model for its cash-delivery operations. It is seeking a Technical Program Associate to implement and manage the technology behind recipient data collection, verification, payments and monitoring, owning all technology aspects of new project launches. The role reports to the Senior Technical Program Manager and is open to Associate or Manager level depending on the candidate.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end technical delivery for program launches, from scoping and requirements gathering through system configuration, implementation, QA and testing, troubleshooting and closeout.
• Collaborate with Operations, Product, Research, Engineering and Data teams so systems align with program objectives and work in field conditions.
• Debug and resolve issues across the technology stack, including the recipient database and the offline survey app.
• Scope and manage cross-cutting system improvements, with mentorship, and ensure compliance with data protection, privacy and financial control standards.
• Lead technical training and onboarding for operations staff and collaborators, and run retrospectives on program launches and technical incidents.

Required profile

• Fluent English and 3+ years of professional experience; a wide range of backgrounds is welcome (project management, product management, data analytics, international development, management consulting).
• Strong data skills and strong project management experience with timelines, stakeholders and complex deliverables.
• Deep comfort with Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets.
• Intermediate experience with a programming or scripting language, most commonly Python, to automate workflows, validate data or implement business logic.
• Not an engineering or data science job; significant interest in technology, systems design and building.
• Preferred but not required: experience with relational databases such as SQL, and proficiency in languages spoken in the countries where GiveDirectly operates (e.g. Swahili, French, Portuguese).
