Tractor Operator / Driver

About the role

FAO is recruiting a Tractor Operator/Driver for its "Building Opportunities for Refugee and Host Community Self-Reliance" project in Turkana County, Kenya. The role supports agricultural field operations such as land preparation, harvesting and post-harvest activities, and is reported to the Assistant FAOR (Administration) and supervised by the Project Lead and the Head of Logistics. It is a 12-month National Project Personnel (NPP) position.

Key responsibilities

• Operate tractors and related agricultural machinery for land preparation, harvesting and post-harvest activities, and run field demonstrations
• Conduct daily pre-operation inspections, report defects and keep the equipment clean and maintained per manufacturer specifications
• Provide transportation and assist in loading and moving agricultural inputs and equipment; drive FAO vehicles when assigned
• Maintain daily operation logs (hours worked, fuel consumption, activities) and submit invoices, receipts and service records to Nairobi
• Prepare monthly equipment and maintenance reports by the 5th of each month
• Follow safety protocols, implement emergency procedures and comply with Kenya Traffic Acts Cap 403 and UN MOSS requirements
• Report repairs, damages and service requests on time and keep the tractor log

Required profile

• Secondary school certificate
• At least three years of progressive work as a tractor operator
• National of Kenya
• Working knowledge of English and Kiswahili (Turkana is an added advantage)
• Medical fitness, and ability to meet residency, visa and security clearance requirements

Required skills

• National Transport and Safety Authority driving licence, category Class B, C or G (industrial construction and agricultural plants and equipment)
• Experience in tractor and tractor-trailer management
• Experience in field operations
