Trainer I Marine Engineering

About the role

The Marine Engineering Trainer will design, develop and deliver training programmes for maritime students, ensuring high‑quality education and practical skills development.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and deliver training programmes and curricula for marine engineering.
• Develop Maritime Education and Training (MET) policies, school calendar and timetabling.
• Prepare and evaluate teaching, learning and assessment materials.
• Supervise trainees’ practical sessions, trade projects and business plans.
• Mark internal examinations and maintain attendance and performance records.
• Ensure workshop equipment is well maintained and operational.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering from a recognised Kenyan university.
• Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch (OICEW) – Regulation III/1 Certificate of Competency.
• Second Engineer – Regulation III/3 (750–3,000 kW) Certificate of Competency.
• Relevant sea time or sea service experience (advantageous).
• Approval by Kenya Maritime Authority (advantageous).
• Fulfil the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.

Required skills

• Proficiency in computer applications.
• Marine engineering technical knowledge.

What we offer

• Basic salary ranging from Ksh 42,500 to Ksh 80,000 per month.
• House allowance of Ksh 10,000.
• Commuter allowance of Ksh 12,000.
• Annual leave allowance of Ksh 4,000.
• Permanent, pensionable contract reporting to the Senior Trainer Marine Engineering.
