Tutor - Medical Laboratory Sciences

About the role

Amref International University, part of Amref Health Africa, is looking for a Tutor for the Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences. The tutor provides high-quality teaching, training, mentorship and academic support to students, ensuring competence-based learning, professional growth and compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. The tutor works closely with the Head of Department and contributes to the department's key performance indicators.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and deliver lectures, practical sessions and demonstrations; attend all assigned class contact hours
• Prepare internal exams, validate them and mark and enter grades into the ERP system
• Develop continuous assessments, practicals, assignments and end-term exams, maintain accurate records and follow the exam schedule
• Supervise students during clinical placements, assess them and liaise with training sites
• Ensure safe use and maintenance of laboratory equipment, promote biosafety and infection prevention protocols, and help manage laboratory inventory
• Attend departmental meetings and academic committees, mentor students, and contribute to recruitment, events and community outreach

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences from a recognized institution
• Valid registration and practicing license from the relevant professional regulatory body
• At least three years of relevant teaching experience
• A teaching qualification or pedagogy training is an added advantage
• Excellent written and verbal communication, teamwork, organization and problem-solving skills, and a high level of integrity
