Umpire for US Navy Program (Diego Garcia)

About the role

The Umpire will support a US Navy recreational sports program on Diego Garcia, officiating softball, baseball and similar league games in accordance with established rules.

Key responsibilities

• Officiate games, making accurate and timely calls on plays, pitches and player actions.
• Inspect fields, equipment and player gear before each game to ensure safety and compliance.
• Maintain game records, scorecards and incident reports.
• Communicate with players, coaches and program staff to resolve disputes and clarify rules.
• Assist with scheduling, field setup and coordination of league activities.
• Promote sportsmanship, safety and positive participation throughout events.

Required profile

• 1–3 years experience officiating softball, baseball or similar sports.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid passport with at least one year beyond hire date and ability to travel internationally.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and maintain them for the deployment duration.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorizations and country‑specific visas.
• Preferred: experience in an austere OCONUS environment, umpire certification, driver’s license and strong knowledge of game rules and conflict‑resolution techniques.
