WASH Assistant – Garissa (Humanitarian)

About the role

The WASH Assistant will support the WASH Officer in delivering high‑quality water, sanitation and hygiene programmes across Garissa, Wajir, Mandera and Tana River, focusing on emergency response and integration with health, nutrition, education and child protection sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the WASH Officer in supervising construction and rehabilitation of WASH facilities such as animal troughs, tank platforms, elevated tower tanks, reticulation systems, boreholes and solarisation.
• Plan, organise and follow up hygiene promotion activities and distribution of WASH non‑food items (jerricans, buckets, soap, PUR, Aquatabs) to target communities.
• Monitor construction quality, ensure safety of sites, validate contractor progress and coordinate payments with logistics.
• Integrate WASH construction with other sectors (nutrition, health, education, child protection) and ensure gender, child protection and other cross‑cutting issues are addressed.

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Public Health or Sanitation.
• Minimum 2 years experience in WASH infrastructure construction in humanitarian or development contexts.
• Experience in project management, community participation and monitoring & evaluation.
• Strong communication skills in English and Kiswahili or Somali.
