Accountant I

About the role

The National Quality Control Laboratory (NQCL) is recruiting a full-time Accountant I for its Nairobi office. The post covers financial accounting and reporting operations within the laboratory. The advertised salary is open.

Key responsibilities

• Implement financial regulations, policies, strategies and plans, and implement budgetary and cost control
• Maintain books of accounts and financial records, including those of the Laboratory, projects and programmes, and government grant and donor fund records
• Monitor revenue collection and expenditures against approved budgets, collect revenue and analyse and report it to management
• Prepare financial reports and statements, management and statutory reports, and collate financial estimates and determine aggregate expenditure
• Implement internal financial controls and identify, analyse and manage financial risk control
• Ensure compliance with financial statutory obligations and circulars, and maintain records of statutory deductions and remittances
• Prepare payment vouchers and process payments, and manage petty cash

Required profile

• Cumulative service of three years' relevant work experience at Accountant II level or a comparable position
• Bachelor's degree in Commerce (Accounting/Finance option), Business Management (Accounting/Finance option), Economics or Business Administration (Accounting/Finance option) from a recognised institution
• Part II of the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination or Part III of the CPA(K) examination, or an equivalent qualification
• Proficiency in computer applications
