Accountant I – Technical Training Institute

About the role

The Thika Technical Training Institute is seeking an experienced Accountant I to manage its financial operations. This full‑time position supports the institute’s mission by ensuring accurate accounting, compliance with government and donor regulations, and effective cash management.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze accounting data, detailing assets, liabilities and capital.
• Prepare financial statements and reports to reflect current and projected financial positions.
• Develop and maintain financial management systems in line with government policies and donor procedures.
• Design and oversee the implementation of general ledger, asset management and revenue collection systems.
• Ensure timely banking of funds and proper cash handling.
• Coordinate preparation of payment vouchers, cheque books, cash book records and related entries.
• Reconcile general ledger control accounts with supplementary records.
• Control and account for security documents, assets and securities.

Required profile

• At least four (4) years of experience in a comparable role such as Accountant II or Finance Officer II.
• Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting/Finance), Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field.
• Part III of the Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (CPAK) examination or equivalent qualification.
• Registered member in good standing with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).
• Demonstrated managerial, administrative and professional competence.

Required skills

• Proficiency with computer accounting packages.
