Accounts Assistant

About the role

The Finance team at Ikigai provides timely financial information to support decision making, including an Accounts Assistant who supports accounts payable and receivable work. The role reports to the Finance Manager and involves data entry, recordkeeping and reconciliation. It is a full-time position in Nairobi.

Key responsibilities

• Record daily food and beverage point-of-sale sales in QuickBooks and reconcile daily M-Pesa and PDQ collections against recorded sales, investigating discrepancies
• Prepare the weekly F&B debtors report and follow up on outstanding balances
• Coordinate stock takes across sites, prepare stock variance reports and escalate significant variances
• Verify and post supplier invoices in QuickBooks, reconcile supplier statements and prepare the weekly petty cash payment plan
• Reconcile assigned balance sheet and profit and loss accounts, conduct basic financial analysis and prepare P&L performance reports for the assigned business unit
• Answer queries from business units about financial results and support the wider finance and accounting team

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Economics or a related field
• Professional certification such as CPA or ACCA
• 1-3 years of accounting experience; hospitality experience is an added advantage
• Detail-oriented, organized, able to work in a busy environment and meet deadlines

Required skills

• QuickBooks (highly preferred)
• Basic accounting principles, accounts payable, reconciliations and financial reporting
• Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word and Outlook
