Anaesthetic Assistant, Operating Room

About the role

Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi, a private not-for-profit teaching hospital accredited by the Joint Commission International, is recruiting a full-time Anaesthetic Assistant for its operating room. The position reports to the Nursing Manager, OR/Theatre, and is based in Nairobi.

Key responsibilities

• Set up, test and calibrate physiological monitors and equipment such as anesthesia machines, airway devices, infusion devices, nerve stimulators, patient/fluid warming devices and fiber optic bronchoscopes
• Perform equipment checks, maintain checklists and keep anesthetic equipment clean
• Maintain a stock of drugs and equipment supplies at anesthesia workstations
• Liaise with the Unit Manager and biomedical engineering on equipment failures
• Take part in the operating theatre's infection control program
• Assist the anesthesiologist before, during and after procedures
• Arrange transport of emergency blood samples to the lab and collect blood products from the blood bank
• Help transfer post-operative patients to the PACU or critical care
• Maintain a supplies inventory with the Nurse Manager, Theatre
• Carry out any other assignments appropriate for this level

Required profile

• Anesthesia Assistant course registration and licensure with the Kenya Health Professions Oversight Authority
• Proficiency in computer operations
• Experience in the theatre is preferred
