Application Technologist

About the role

OSF Flavors East Africa is seeking an Application Technologist to develop food and beverage formulations for regional customers. You will work closely with flavorists and the sales team, turning briefs into prototypes and supporting scale‑up to production.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and adapt applications across beverages, dairy, bakery, confectionery, savory products and sauces, balancing taste, texture, sweetness, acidity, stability and cost.
• Handle customer briefs from concept through bench formulation, lab samples, prototypes, tastings and feedback to industrial production.
• Support scale‑up of specialized technologies such as sugar and salt reduction, and provide on‑site technical support during customer trials.
• Maintain clear formulation records, conduct sensory testing, and share findings with flavor and commercial teams.

Required profile

• Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry or related field.
• 3‑6 years hands‑on experience in food and beverage applications at a flavor, ingredients or manufacturing company.
• Comfortable in customer‑facing roles with knowledge of HACCP and FSSC 22000 standards.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites within the region.

Required skills

• Practical formulation skills: pH, Brix, acidity, viscosity and sensory testing.
• Experience scaling recipes from bench to production.
• Familiarity with food safety standards (HACCP, FSSC 22000).
• Use of CRM tools such as Salesforce (a plus).
