Architect Internship

About the role

The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is seeking a motivated Architecture Intern to support the Facilities Management & Transportation Section. This unpaid, full‑time internship offers hands‑on experience in design, project coordination, and site visits within a multicultural UN environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing design drawings, sketches, and basic project deliverables.
• Discuss project requirements with team members and organize related files and materials.
• Visit worksites to monitor progress and ensure plans are followed.
• Prepare contracts, reports, CAD drawings, and diagrams.
• Research building codes, standards, and material specifications.
• Develop 3D conceptual designs, mock‑ups, and colour boards.
• Order product samples, perform basic calculations, and support project research.
• Attend project staff meetings and carry out administrative and analytical tasks.

Required profile

• Enrolled in a graduate programme, in the final year of a bachelor’s programme, or holding a Bachelor’s/Master’s/PhD degree.
• Computer literate with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong interest in United Nations work and commitment to its Charter.
• Ability to interact respectfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Studies in Architecture or a related field are preferred.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD drawing tools.
• Experience in 3D design concepts.
• Competence in Microsoft Office applications.
