Assistant Chief Engineer

About the role

JW Marriott is hiring an Assistant Chief Engineer in Nairobi, Kenya. The role supports the department head in managing the engineering function, covering budget, capital expenditures, preventative maintenance and energy conservation, and keeps the building and grounds safe, secure and well maintained. It also involves supervising staff and contractors, improving guest and employee satisfaction through communication and training, and acting as the supervisor of Engineering in the Director of Engineering's absence.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise the distribution of repair work orders and monitor their timeliness and quality; ensure property policies are applied fairly and consistently.
• Help plan, schedule and evaluate preventative maintenance programs and assist in managing the physical plant, including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical and life safety systems.
• Inspect facilities, maintain accurate logs, operate generators and fire pumps, repair equipment such as refrigeration and laundry, and arrange for painting, repairs, renovations and furniture/equipment purchases.
• Empower employees to deliver excellent customer service, set performance expectations, and take part in performance appraisals and disciplinary procedures.
• Train employees in safety procedures, run a departmental orientation program, help interview new hires and supervise staffing levels.
• Provide emergency response services 24/7 and ensure staff have the right supplies, equipment and uniforms.

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in a technical field.
• 2 years of experience in a similar role within a luxury hotel environment.
