Assistant Conservation Officer (Suyian Conservancy)

About the role

The Assistant Conservation Officer will support Suyian Conservancy’s wildlife and ecological monitoring programmes. Working primarily in the field, you will help collect, manage and analyse data that drives conservation decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in planning and executing wildlife monitoring activities such as camera trapping, transect surveys and telemetry tracking.
• Maintain the conservancy’s camera‑trap network, including deployment, retrieval and routine checks.
• Collect, enter and store ecological data accurately; support the use of platforms like Earth Ranger, Survey123 and Trap Tagger.
• Perform GIS analysis, produce maps and visualisations for monitoring and management.
• Analyse field data and contribute to monthly, quarterly and annual conservation reports.
• Support invasive‑species monitoring, community engagement and logistical needs of visiting researchers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Management, Wildlife Management, Conservation Biology, Environmental Science or related field.
• 1‑2 years of practical experience in wildlife conservation, ecological monitoring or protected‑area management.
• Valid driving licence and ability to work independently in the field.

Required skills

• Camera‑trap operation and image annotation.
• Use of telemetry equipment for collared species.
• GIS software (ArcGIS) and spatial data management.
• Conservation technology platforms: Earth Ranger, Survey123, Trap Tagger.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
