Assistant Financial Accountant

About the role

The Assistant Financial Accountant supports the lodge’s finance function by ensuring accurate recording of financial information, maintaining stock controls, and assisting with statutory compliance. This role works closely with the Finance Controller and other staff to uphold high financial standards across the lodge.

Key responsibilities

• Record and manage financial data for Suyian Lodge and related business units.
• Maintain and improve financial standards, discipline, and stock control procedures.
• Mentor and train account clerks and staff from various backgrounds.
• Resolve general ledger queries and assist the Finance Controller with queries.
• Reconcile accounts, including clearing accounts and inter‑lodge transactions.
• Participate in monthly finance meetings and prepare management account analysis.
• Assist with budgeting, quarterly re‑forecasts, and capex reporting.
• Handle cash flow requirements, cheque vouchers, and payments via the M‑pesa platform.
• Support internal audits, statutory audits (NEMA, health & safety, fire, etc.) and license renewals.
• Maintain financial systems, ensure data accuracy, and monitor vehicle fleet statistics.

Required profile

• Proven experience in financial accounting and stock control within a hospitality or lodge environment.
• Ability to mentor and train junior accounting staff.
• Familiarity with statutory audit requirements and government licensing processes.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet finance deadlines.
