Assistant Fire Chief of Training

About the role

The Assistant Fire Chief of Training will lead the development, management, and delivery of fire and emergency response training programs for a multi‑national fire department supporting a U.S. Navy mission on Diego Garcia.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) training program, ensuring alignment with NFPA, DoD, and Navy standards.
• Design and implement tailored training curricula, including classroom instruction, hands‑on exercises, drills, and simulations.
• Evaluate personnel performance during training and readiness drills, providing feedback for continuous improvement.
• Maintain certification schedules, ensure compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements, and keep detailed training records.
• Oversee procurement, maintenance, and upkeep of training equipment and materials.
• Serve as primary liaison to external training organizations, certifying bodies, and other stakeholders.

Required profile

• Minimum three years experience leading an F&ES training section or division of similar size.
• Certification as Assistant Chief of Operations and Fire Instructor III.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong communication, organizational, and leadership abilities to mentor a diverse, multi‑national team.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements, obtain necessary visas, and maintain facility credentials.

Required skills

• Knowledge of fire service training standards (NFPA, DoD, Navy).
• Experience developing and delivering comprehensive fire and emergency training programs.
• Proficiency in managing training equipment and resources.
