Assistant Librarian (Grade 11)

About the role

Mama Ngina University College, a constituent college of Kenyatta University, is recruiting an Assistant Librarian (Grade 11) for its Library Department. The post covers a wide range of library operations, from managing collections and digital resources to advising users and training staff.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare the duty rota for library staff and take part in face-to-face and online enquiry services
• Support the development of modules of the Library Management System
• Help manage the premises so they remain safe, clean and well maintained
• Evaluate information resources and contribute to collection management and development
• Apply the library's policies, procedures and guidelines
• Take part in student induction programmes and liaise with academic departments on book requests
• Manage digital collections and electronic resources, including an institutional repository
• Administer library applications in the university server and maintain the library website and database
• Train staff and students on library systems and software, and help them use the catalogue

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Library/Information Science or equivalent from an accredited university
• At least six years of relevant work experience
• Merit shown in work performance and results
• Membership in good standing of a relevant professional body is an added advantage
• Must meet the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution

Required skills

• Proficiency in computer applications
• Experience with library systems and software
