Assistant Project Manager

About the role

The Assistant Project Manager will support the Project Manager in planning, coordinating and monitoring telecommunications and infrastructure projects across East Africa. This entry‑level position offers hands‑on experience in project documentation, budgeting and stakeholder liaison.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in developing project plans, schedules and resource allocations.
• Coordinate daily activities with site supervisors, technical teams and subcontractors.
• Track progress against timelines and budgets, flag deviations and help plan corrective actions.
• Prepare project documentation such as reports, minutes, procurement requests and progress trackers.
• Support cost monitoring, budget reconciliation and variation tracking.
• Liaise with clients, suppliers and internal departments to follow up on approvals and deliverables.
• Help organise logistics and procurement of materials and equipment.
• Ensure project sites comply with EHS and quality standards.
• Participate in project meetings, record minutes and follow up on action items.
• Compile close‑out documentation and handover packages.
• Provide project coordination support in the Project Manager’s absence and escalate critical issues.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Project Management or related field.
• 2–4 years of experience supporting project delivery in telecom, ICT, electrical or infrastructure sectors.
• Valid driving licence and willingness to travel across East Africa.
• Project Management certification (PMP, PRINCE2, CAPM) is an advantage.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Familiarity with MS Project or similar project‑management tools.
• Basic understanding of telecommunications infrastructure (GSM, FTTX).
