Associate Dean, Undergraduate Medical Education

About the role

The Aga Khan University, East Africa is seeking an accomplished leader to serve as Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education. Reporting to the Dean of the Medical College, the role supports the development, operation, and quality assurance of all undergraduate programmes within the College of Medicine.

Key responsibilities

• Lead strategic and operational planning for undergraduate medical programmes, including curriculum leadership, academic governance and calendar development.
• Participate in Faculty of Health Sciences and university‑wide strategic planning activities.
• Oversee student welfare and ensure high‑quality teaching, learning and assessment across programmes.
• Mentor and supervise faculty members holding educational leadership positions.
• Assist the Office of the Dean in recruiting educational leaders and manage performance reviews for UGME directors.
• Develop, implement and continuously improve curricula, teaching methods, programme evaluation and quality assurance processes.
• Coordinate with the Registrar, Examination Board and other AKU entities to align intake, assessment, progression and academic calendar.
• Prepare and manage the budget for undergraduate programmes, ensuring responsible use of financial resources.
• Contribute to educational scholarship and represent the College on relevant academic committees.

Required profile

• Proven senior academic leadership experience in medical or health‑science education.
• Strong understanding of curriculum design, accreditation standards and quality improvement.
• Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and oversee large, multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
• Commitment to student welfare and academic excellence.
