Associate Professor

About the role

Laikipia University is recruiting an Associate Professor based in Nairobi (Westlands). The role combines teaching, supervision of students, research and service to the community and the profession.

Key responsibilities

• Lead curriculum development and review, develop learning and teaching materials, and deliver lectures to undergraduate and postgraduate students
• Assess student performance, maintain attendance and assessment records, and prepare progress reports
• Supervise postgraduate and undergraduate research, and supervise students on industrial attachment, teaching practice and internships
• Lead research projects, publish peer-reviewed articles, books and book chapters, and lead seminars, conferences, symposia and workshops
• Provide expert opinion on income generation projects and lead academic consultancies
• Review academic journals, books and book chapters, moderate exams, and serve on university committees
• Act as patron to student organizations and attend school and departmental meetings

Required profile

• Doctorate (PhD) or equivalent from an accredited university in the relevant field
• At least 48 publication points as a Senior Lecturer or industry experience, of which at least 32 from refereed scholarly journals
• Served as a Senior Lecturer or in a comparable position for at least three years
• Supervised at least four postgraduate students to completion, including at least one doctoral student
• Registration with a professional body is an added advantage; a certificate in computer applications is also listed
