Audit Officer – Accounting and Tax Advisory

About the role

A client accounting services firm in Nairobi is looking for an Audit Officer to support its clients with accounting records, tax matters and audit and assurance work. The role also covers internal accounting and tax responsibilities for the organisation itself, and requires close client relationship management.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and prepare accounting records, post and review transactions, journals, accruals, prepayments and adjustments, and prepare bank, supplier, customer, payroll and general ledger reconciliations.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports, assist clients with bookkeeping, accounts payable/receivable, cash management and management accounts, and identify accounting errors.
• Provide accounting and tax guidance, research technical issues, prepare tax computations and schedules, and escalate complex tax matters to the Tax Manager.
• Assist with internal and external audit assignments: prepare working papers, perform substantive testing and internal control checks, draft findings and follow up on client responses.
• Maintain accurate internal accounting records, help with tax compliance and statutory filings, and support month-end and year-end closing.
• Build professional client relationships, follow up on documentation, and keep client information confidential.
• Ensure work complies with tax laws, accounting standards and internal procedures, and maintain complete working papers.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related field; CPA, ACCA or equivalent preferred.
• 2-5 years of relevant experience in accounting, taxation, audit or professional services; experience with multiple clients is highly desirable.
• Practical experience in tax compliance, accounting, financial statements and management accounts.
• Experience supporting tax audits, investigations or tax authority queries is an advantage.

Required skills

• Experience using accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Additional training in taxation, audit or financial reporting is an advantage.
