Behavioural Science Consultant – UNICEF (Remote, Long‑Term Agreement)

About the role
UNICEF is seeking individual consultants with deep expertise in behavioural science to provide on‑demand support for Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) programmes worldwide. The role is remote and operates under a Long‑Term Agreement, allowing consultants to contribute across the full programme cycle – from research and design to evaluation and advisory services.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct rigorous behavioural diagnoses to identify drivers of behaviour across health, nutrition, education, child protection, WASH, social policy and climate resilience programmes.
- Design, test and refine evidence‑based interventions using behavioural economics, social psychology and decision‑science principles.
- Apply advanced analytical methods, including machine learning, large language models, agent‑based simulation, network and geospatial analysis, and adaptive experimentation.
- Translate behavioural findings into actionable recommendations for country offices, regional hubs and Centres of Excellence.
- Provide capacity‑building, advisory and decision‑support services to UNICEF teams and partners.
Required profile
- Advanced degree (PhD or Master’s) in behavioural science, economics, psychology, decision science or a related field.
- Proven experience designing and evaluating behavioural interventions in international development or public‑health contexts.
- Demonstrated ability to work remotely with multidisciplinary teams and deliver high‑quality outputs on tight timelines.
- Strong analytical mindset and familiarity with computational methods used in modern behavioural research.
