Business Development Manager – Transactional Practices

About the role

Arnold & Porter is seeking a Business Development Manager to support its premier transactional practices, including Bankruptcy & Restructuring, Tax, Private Client Services, Project Finance, Sovereign Finance, and Syndicated & Leveraged Finance. The role can be based in New York or Washington, DC and will work closely with practice leaders and attorneys to drive growth.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with practice chairs and working group leaders to develop and execute business development strategies for selected transactional areas.
• Identify market trends, client opportunities, and cross‑selling initiatives across practices.
• Lead the creation of client‑focused pitches, proposals, and RFP responses.
• Coach attorneys on business development best practices and prepare them for client engagements.
• Oversee practice descriptions, marketing collateral, league tables, and experience databases.
• Coordinate webinars, client events, thought‑leadership initiatives, and legal directory submissions.
• Support lateral partner integration through targeted client planning.
• Develop and manage practice group budgets, evaluate ROI, and utilize CRM tools for client targeting and relationship management.

Required profile

• Proven experience in business development within a professional services or legal environment.
• Ability to collaborate with senior attorneys and practice leaders.
• Strong analytical mindset for market and client opportunity assessment.
• Experience managing budgets and measuring return on investment.
