Clinical Nurse - Cons Clinic

About the role

Aga Khan University Hospital is recruiting a Clinical Nurse for its Cons Clinic in Westlands, Kenya. The nurse supports the physician in the clinic, prepares consultation rooms, assesses patients and helps deliver safe, appropriate care.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare consultation rooms so that stocks, linen, basic equipment and stationery are always available.
• Perform basic assessments for every patient (vital signs, height and weight) and design care suited to each person's needs.
• Prepare patients for the physician's examination and act as chaperone where necessary.
• Assist the physician with clinic procedures and perform basic tests such as glucose testing and urinalysis.
• Assess patients' and families' education needs and provide teaching.
• Ensure the safety of special populations such as children, the elderly, people with psychiatric conditions and those with disabilities.
• Know community resources and help refer patients when needed.
• Follow infection control practices and keep the workplace clean and safe.
• Take part in data collection and monitoring of the clinic's quality indicators.
• Keep equipment safe by cleaning, storing it properly, checking inventory each shift and reporting broken equipment to the unit supervisor.
• Join unit-based continuing education, quality improvement projects, CCPC certification, audits, spot checks and skill checks.

Required profile

• RN from a recognized school of nursing or university.
• Current licensure with the Nursing Council of Kenya.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Evidence-based knowledge of current medical-surgical nursing practice.
